What We Do
ABS Wolff Research Fellowship
Established in 2026, this fellowship supports Bach-related research. Named in honor of Christoph Wolff for his exceptional achievements in Bach studies and his longstanding, generous support of the American Bach Society, it is intended to fund a project lasting a few months to a year, for either a doctoral student engaged in dissertation work, an independent scholar, or a college or university faculty member. Residency in North America is not a requirement. The expectation is that a fellowship recipient will work principally on the proposed project during the period of the award. The amount of the ABS Wolff Research Fellowship will range from $10,000 to $50,000, depending on the time frame and funding needs of successful applicants. The ABS seeks to award at least one ABS Wolff Research Fellowship per year.
Eligibility criteria

A doctoral degree (either in progress or earned) in musicology or a related field

An established research profile commensurate with career stage

A topic relevant to Bach studies

A narrative of the proposed project (not to exceed 1500 words) which addresses the nature and value of the research and the intended product
