The American Bach Society supports the study, performance, and appreciation of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his circle. Founded as a chapter of the Neue Bachgesellschaft in 1972, and incorporated as an independent non-profit foundation in 1988, the ABS sponsors conferences, publications, competitions, and videos, and awards a wide range of grants and prizes.

ABS publications include Bach Perspectives, Bach Notes, and ABS Guides. The Society holds a biennial meeting and conference, sponsors the Ruth Monte Memorial Bach Competition, and co-sponsors the Bach Vocal Competition for American Singers. Videos include the Society’s Tiny Bach Concerts and the ABS Book Club series. Grants awarded by the Society support research, German-language study, and creative projects that expand diversity. The Society is a co-sponsor of Encounters with Eighteenth-Century Music, a virtual forum.
